The University of Chicago is known for its commitment to free speech and academic freedom. Why are these values important to the university? Where do they originate?
No matter in science is "settled". One should always precede a conclusion of science with "in so far as we understand" Any scientific conclusion is invalidated by data that disproves it. There are no final proofs in science. But disproofs occur every day.
It’s wonderful that there is funding to flesh out these key principles of American democracy as they apply to the university. It would be great if these heroes could also do outreach to high schools, including some of the private schools that feed our leadership class in the Ivy League – – Andover, Exeter, Groton, Choate etc, on whom the leftie teachers have had a monopoly.
